Data.gov

If you haven’t checked it out yet, be sure to take a look at data.gov when you get a chance. There is tons of great, easily accesible information. And even better yet, take a look at DC’s Data Catalogue. You can follow crime report feeds, view info on current construction projects, and search for public space permits. And those are only a few of the many data feeds available.

If you have a little techincal know-how, you can take this info and make some great mash-ups. One example is Stumble Safely from Apps for Democracy. I’m sure that the idea behind making this data more easily accesible wasn’t just to find the “safest” way home from the bar, so be sure to share your ideas with others regarding how we can better use this info to benefit everyone in the District!
