“More powerful is the camaraderie of the boating community. Live aboards are rather democratic, less concerned about careers than septic lines and bowsprits. Neighbors can be grocery clerks or senators, but conversations invariably return to matters aquatic. Decks are like old-fashioned stoops, and boaters find numerous opportunities to socialize.”
