This is section of our newsletter we’ll look back on April and Earth day, with a reminder of things we can do every day, every month, to help keep our waterways clean, a few pointers on getting a dinghy ready for summer, plus a shout-out for the river cleanup crew below.
Use less plastics and keep our waters clean…
By Jean Link, Laneyse Hooks, and many others
No one wants to BUY MORE STUFF to save the Earth. As we get ready to shop for another huge container of laundry detergent, or throw away the millionth plastic toothbrush, deodorant, or shampoo container, let’s take a moment to check out these companies and place an order with them instead. Gathered here are prices and details on some common items we all need from a variety of eco friendly sources. These are primarily online, so try to buy in bulk, with a subscription, or with friends.
Remember: to reduce single-use bags and cups, bring along your reusable bags and your reusable water bottles during your day.

There’s a lot to think about, before you dink about
By Ryan and Elizabeth Risley
The days are getting longer, the cars are sprinkled with green pixie dust (aka pollen) and the catfish are jumping… that can only mean one thing… Dinks and Drinks are just around the corner!
Our dinghy’s may be small but they are mighty vessels and they serve as the golf carts of the community, so they need love too! As one can imagine, there are different schools of thought (levels of rigor) when it comes to how much to prepare for spring. Therefore we thought it would be helpful to put together a little thought provoking guide on getting your dink out safely into the “Sea of Gangplank” and beyond.
This is not intended to be exhaustive, mostly a reminder of the things to consider before you hit the water.

Also in April, Jason Kopp, slip Y-31, coordinated with Alice Ferguson Foundation’s Trash Free Potomac and gathered about thirty volunteers from Capital Yacht Club, Port of Washington Yacht Club, Wharf DC, and Gangplank Slipholders on April 25th to comb our waters and landside to remove the plastics and… well… All the strange garbage found there.
